Reading a Tape Measure
- Verify sliding tip moves 1/16 of an inch
- Verify that markings are still visible - if not get a new tape measure
/- When measuring a part start reading the measurement with the whole number or inch mark
- Next read the closest line to the length of the part
- The smallest mark on the inch side is 1/16" - so 1/2" equals 8 marks of 8/16"
- The 1/2" line is the longest line between inch marks
- The 1/4" line is slightly shorter marking the 1/4" and 3/4" places
- The 1/8" line is the slightly shorter than the 1/4" line
